Why should I choose a parent participation preschool?

It’s an great opportunity to be involved in your child’s first school experience.. You see your child at play and can get support from our experienced early childhood educator and other parents. Many life-long friendships have begun at the school for both you and your child though this time at preschool. The first years in the education system are so very important to your child and you will be rewarded in a number of ways through your involvement.

What does parent participation mean?

In effect, parents “own” the preschool. Parents help in the classroom, assume responsibilities in the day-to-day operation of the school, attend monthly education and business meetings and vote on key aspects of operation.

What role will I have as a duty parent?

Parents assist the teacher in preparing the classroom, help children with activities, supervise, prepare snacks and clean up at the end of the day. Parents are there for all the children, not only their child, but on your duty day, you’ll be able to observe your child at play with others and enjoy the school day with them.

How much time is expected of from the school?

Parents help in the classroom two or three classes a month. They also take on a job in the school such as managing the library, writing the monthly newsletter or maintaining equipment. Depending on the job, this can take between one and four hours a month. Parents must also attend monthly meetings. The first half deals with preschool business and the second half is a parent education seminar on topics related to early childhood and parenting. Meetings are about 2 or 3 hours long.
